Habits for healthy hair

Hair can become damaged by many things, from the conditions of your environment right down to the ingredients in your hair care products. When looking after your hair, it’s important to choose your products carefully, avoid damaging environmental conditions and implement the following healthy habits from experts into your care routine.1–3

Avoid damage. Try to minimise your use of heated styling tools, hair extensions and blow drying. These can damage your tresses and ultimately make your hair shorter due to breakage.

Expert tip: style your hair when it is ~80% dry. Dripping wet hair takes longer to style, is less elastic and more prone to breakage.

Increase time between treatments. Washing your hair less frequently, using colour-safe shampoos and applying root touch-up kits for grey hairs can help extend your time between colour treatments and help maintain your hair integrity.

Expert tip: Gloss and glaze products help seal colour pigments and slow fading; baby powder and dry shampoos will help hide oily parts and strands.

Nourish your hair. Harsh cleansers can strip away natural oils. Select products that contain essential oils to help nourish and bolster your hair health.

Expert tip: What you put into your body has an effect on your hair. Choosing foods rich in B vitamins and folic acid may help to elongate the hair follicle and promote healthy hair growth.
